Federal College of Education, Katsina formally known as Federal Advanced Teachers’ College Katsina was founded in 1976. It has the mandate to initially produce well qualified holders of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) to teach in both Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in the Country.
At its inception, the College operated on two campuses, one at the U.P.E. Teachers’ College Dutsin-ma and the other at scattered locations in Katsina town. The Dutsin-ma Campus was for science students while the Katsina Campus catered for the Arts, Humanities and Vocational Education students. However, in 1981 when the permanent site was considered reasonably developed, all the students and staff from the satellite campuses were moved to the present location of the College which is along Katsina – Dutsin-ma road.
The College started operations in 1976 in affiliation to Bayero University Kano and it was funded by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Education. To January 1990, the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) was established by Act No.3 of January, 1989 and amended by another Act No.12 of 1993 and it became the supervisory agency.
